Pensions, the hidden inequality
We talk about inequality a lot at the moment. In politics, in the media and definitely in the pub. But for whatever reason, pensions don’t get included in the discussion and they need to be. They are hugely relevant.
The gap between the incredibly wealthy and the rest of us is growing at an alarming rate. Low wages are helping to drive a cost of living crisis so severe that some people cannot afford the essentials of food and heating.
This crisis does not lessen when we stop working. If anything it increases as most of us will end up on even lower levels of income in retirement.
It is now compulsory for employers to provide a workplace pension. A great benefit for employees but how many of us actually understand them or know how to navigate such an overwhelmingly complex system?
Oh to be able to wave a magic wand so that we all have enough for a decent standard of living when we do reach retirement! But I can’t, so the best I can do is to create an accessible, friendly space in Your Pension Your Planet that focuses on providing education. Somewhere to go for information so that as many of us as possible can start to understand how our pensions will affect each and every one of us, both now and in the future.
